Mind Maps

What are they?

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea.

Why use them?

Mind maps can be used for lots of things. I personally find that when I am troubled with making a decision, I put my issue/decision needing to be made in the middle and plan around it – what are all of the pros / cons of the decision in hand. This really helps to get my thoughts on paper. You can use mind maps for:

  • Problem Solving
  • Being creative with your ideas – let your mind drift on the paper
  • Team building – Have your work place in the centre (or work department) and map around it with all team members

How can mind maps can help  you learn?

Tony Buzan is a key figure in the mind mapping world. Tony describes how using a mind map can enhance learning. The scientific explanation involves the use of both the left and right side of the brain. For more information, you can visit wikipedia or google for information!
